Underwater World turtle returned
The aspiring 12-year-old mum-to-be, an Eastern snake neck turtle, was brought into the popular Mooloolaba tourist attraction about 3pm.
Emily, one of 40 turtles in the special children’s interactive pool the Billabong and Backyard exhibit, was stolen last Thursday.
The turtles are currently in the middle of breeding season.
Police made a number of inquiries and two people assisting investigations said Emily had been dumped at the back of Mountain Creek school shortly after.
Staff began a wide scale search with no success.
Underwater World staff said a male person arrived at the counter on Sunday afternoon with Emily but fled after a short conversation.
Staff say the turtle is “definitely Emily” after shell markings and other details matched that of the stolen turtle.
