The Associated Press
CHERAW, S.C. — Authorities say two people died after their pickup truck was hit by a passenger train in Cheraw.
South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins says the wreck happened at about 7:45 a.m. Monday when an Amtrak train hit a 1994 pickup truck.
Chesterfield County Coroner Kip Kiser says 52-year-old Glenn Locklear and 56-year-old Barney Driggers, both of Cheraw, died from their injuries.
Amtrak says the train left Miami on Sunday en route to New York. None of the 244 passengers on board was injured.
The patrol is investigating the crash. Collins says the intersection has a stop sign but no crossing guards.
